What is a sacramental?

Sacramentals are sacred signs, such as rosaries, medals, crucifixes and holy water, that the Church gives to help make the moments of daily life holy. They do not give grace the way the seven sacraments do; through the prayer of the Church, they prepare us to receive grace and to cooperate with it (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1667–1670).
